What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
In my work as a spiritual healer, I often have clients who request relationship tarot card readings. They all want to know if the significant other in their life is a soulmate, twin flame, or just someone placed in their path. My first question to them is always what their definitions are for these terms. Between movie magic and social media clickbait, our spiritual definitions have been lost. My clients want to know if their current fling is “The One” and always leave my office disappointed…because in most Shamanic practices, we believe we have a team of twin flame(s) on the physical and spiritual plane, a soulmate who drives us crazy, and network of living souls scheduled to cross our life paths at different times for different reasons. Even if I can correctly categorize their significant other as one of these relationships, it doesn’t guarantee the predestined love that burns across time and space.

Some people study the latest fashion trends or sport's scores, but I love reading the latest research on the soulmates. When I was asked to join a group of award-winning authors to write in the Reincarnation Book Series, I couldn’t say no. This steamy, vampire romance series is the collision of all my interests—soulmates, paranormal romance, and eBooks so hot they fog your reader!

In the Reincarnation Book Series, the Syre travels across time and space to give men a second chance at love. When these men lose their soulmate to injustice, the Syre appears and offers them immortality as vampires. Why immortality when their loved one is gone? In time, his soulmate will reincarnate and he will have the opportunity to convert her to an immortal vampire as well.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Makaha Juang is a Hawaiian Shamanic Practitioner turned vampire by the Syre. I've studied Shamanism for years and I'm certified in both general Native American traditions and Hawaiian traditions. I love writing about the tug-of-war a healer faces between their spiritual contract and the condition of being human. Makaha's lesson is one of temptation. When he realizes she's Kaihua reincarnated, he is in the unique position to further bind her soul to his, with or without her consent. He struggles with the desires of his heart and his integrity. I loved writing the part of spirit guide Lila who acts as the voice of reason, whether he hers her or not.

“I could physically perform the transaction, but karmically, I shouldn’t. He sells these because his Ojibwe spirit guides reinforce the weave. He transfers the intention of protecting himself to protecting you—almost like activating a credit card after it’s mailed to you. I would be selling you a beautiful—yet lifeless—piece of art.”

Respectful of the other artist, spiritually awake, and absolutely gorgeous, this guy is my kryptonite. And why does he smell so good? Normally, I can pick out a guy’s aftershave to the brand name, but the mystic hottie smells of an island vacation…and not in the cheap tanning lotion way. If he pulled out a coconut and a machete, I’d drink with him without being weirded out. My mind paints a picture of us picnicking on a beach and I shiver. The image is so vivid that it feels like I’ve known him before…known his touch…known his kiss… I stand with a stupid look on my face before realizing it’s my turn to talk. I must say something, so he doesn’t suspect I’m sniffing him…

“Gretchen,” I blurt out. Smooth one, girl. “My name is Gretchen and I have nightmares.” Awesome, if I’m introducing myself to a support group. My face has heated ten degrees. My mini-dress sticks to my body and my knee socks weigh as much as shackles. “If you can’t sell me a dreamcatcher of his, can you sell me one of yours?”

He doesn’t have dreamcatchers on his table or any other talisman. Under his frame are bags of herbs, dried flowers, and nuts. Leis made of crushed crystals, nuts, or beads hang around an ‘Aloha Proud Native Hawaiian’ sign behind him.

“Well, Gretchen, I can’t sell you a dreamcatcher—"

“Okay, thanks. I’ll be going then—”

“Because I am a dreamcatcher.”
